From the recording Let There Be Rock and Roll
Lyrics
First There was water, then there was light,
Upon the water God made day and night.
And He said: “Hey Old Man, what You’ve done ain’t half bad.
So when You get up in the morning don’t forget the inspiration You had.”
And in the morning, in all His Love,
He put the water below and Heaven above
And He said: “Hey Old Man, the Firmament is not like this place.
So you gotta remember that Heaven and Earth need some space.”
So in the morning God made the land
Then grass and trees and then the ocean’s sand,
And He said: “Hey Old Man; Not bad for one day’s work.
But when You worry about perfection You’ll only drive Yourself berserk.”
So in the morning God made the sun
Right with the stars and then the days and nights begun.
And He said “Hey Old Man; This is really kinda beautiful!
But when You get up in the morning don’t forget to make rock-n-roll.”
The next day came and it slipped His Mind,
So He made birds and then the fish of every kind.
And He said: “Hey Old Man, I think You’re forgetting about something.
So when You get up in the morning just try to remember what to bring.”
But in the morning God racked His Brain,
But He couldn’t remember so He went on just the same.
And He said: “Hey Old Man, I think that something needs to live on the ground.”
And so He snapped His Mighty Fingers and animals and people were found.
Now here’s the part, most stories say,
God said “enough” and just relaxed that last day.
But the truth of the matter is that mankind was out of control.
And when He saw He remembered: He said “Let there be rock-n-roll.”
