Lyrics

When I was young, most everyone
Told me how to find a way,
Away from dreams to what they thought was real.
And still today I hear them say,
In the game of life they play,
To believe the past so you know how to feel.
But lately I have had a feeling
That everything I told myself was true
Was only something I was dreaming--
Dreaming of a truth I thought I knew.
And I have been the master runaway.

There was a time, when in my mind,
I could sail through Heaven's Gate
Heeling over water on a gentle breeze.
But when I came and took my name,
I had to learn to navigate
The rocks that hide below that lay downstream.
But lately I have had a feeling
I'm like a ship that's lost at sea.
And darkened clouds have been concealing
The stars that could be guiding me.
And I have been the captain gone astray.

Now that I've seen what's in between
The summer days and the winter nights,
And seen that in my mind it's all the same;
I see the race I seem to face
Is just a show of smoke and lights
That try to disconnect and entertain.
But lately I have had the feeling
I'm like a mouse that's in a maze.
But every turn has been revealing,
The ways I turn don't matter anyway.
For I have been a self-made castaway.
